Behind the Project

Christmas is my favorite time of the year, filled with nostalgia, joy, and magic. Music is a part of my everyday life, but during the holidays songs are exceedingly welcome. I grew up belting Celine Dion’s version of “O Holy Night” and always dreamt of joining a choir to properly perform Carol of the Bells.

It’s fitting that my first professional record was Christmas music, but the reason this project came together is much more meaningful. I’d completed a six-month writing internship with the A21 Campaign, a global anti-human trafficking organization. I’d written blog posts using the nonprofit mantra “We can’t all do everything, but we can all do something.” What was my new “something” to help survivors? I decided to record a Christmas CD and donate all the proceeds to A21.

I had no idea what it took to make a good record, but I figured I could get it done myself in a few weeks. God graciously connected me to the right people again and again. Talented musicians volunteered their skills to rehearse and record (HUGE thanks to Steve Hoganson for his countless hours on this project). Recording studios offered discounts. We were even blessed with funding to complete the recording, mixing, and mastering process with an elite studio. We all contributed our “something” for survivors of human trafficking, and this beautiful CD came to life.

I picked traditional Christmas songs and wrote the title song, “Coming to Save” to celebrate Jesus as Savior–for the survivors we can rescue and help recover, for the entire world in need of His love, and for me personally. Jesus came to our rescue on the first Christmas, and He continues to today!
